Toys EN71 certification

What is EN71 certification?
EN71 certification is the EU standard for toy products. Children are one of the most concerned and cared for groups in the whole society. The toy market, which is generally loved by children, is developing rapidly, while various toys have caused injuries to children due to quality problems. Many countries have their own safety regulations regarding these products, and before selling the area, the manufacturing company must ensure compliance with the relevant standards. The manufacturer is responsible for accidents caused by manufacturing defects, poor design or the use of improper materials. Accordingly, Europe issued a toy EN71 certification decree, intended to reduce or avoid harm to children from toys through the EN71 standard, the technical regulation of toy products entering the European market.
EN71 certification is the EU market standard for toy products, the significance of the EN71 standard for the technical regulation of toy products entering the European market, so as to reduce or avoid the harm of toys to children. EN71 Toy DirectiveToys Toy Directive applies to any product or material designed for or intended for play by children under 14 years of age, if charged, the power supply must not exceed 24V.

EN71 is the normative standard for toy products in the EU market. The significance of the European decree on toy EN71 certification is to reduce or avoid harm to children through the technical regulation of toy products entering the European market by the EN71 standard. The European Commission officially published the new harmonized toy safety standard EN71-1:2011 in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) on June 18, 2011, which is in accordance with the new Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC (effective date: July 20, 2011). According to the new toy safety directive, all toys placed on the EU market after July 20, 2011 must comply with the new harmonized toy standard EN71-1:2011.

EN71 test items

EN71-1: Physical and Mechanical Properties Testing

It mainly includes drop test, small parts test, sharp edge test, pull test, ear, nose and eye pull test, pressure test, torque test, thread seam test, etc.

EN71-2: Flammability test

It specifies all the types of flammable materials that are prohibited and requires that the burning rate of the tested materials must not exceed the specified limits, mainly for toy clothing, toys for children to play and wear, stuffed toys made of plush or textile fabrics, and other toys containing flammable material components.

EN71-3: Migration testing of specific elements (eight heavy metal tests)

Simulates the heavy metals that can be leached from toy materials in children's gastric juices from accessible parts (while considering accessibility in case of abuse) and sets maximum limits.

EN71 certificate testing process

1、Communicate the standard of the product to be done (EU EN71 US ASTM F963).

2、Confirm the test standard, testing items, product quantity, testing period and other details.

3、Fill out the application form and other related documents.

4、Submit product information (specifications, manuals, key components, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, block diagrams, etc.).

5、Mail samples.

6、Execute the test.

7、Issue test report and certificate.

What materials should be prepared for EN71 testing?

1. 2-3 test samples are required

2. Product manual or user manual

3. Testing application form (we provide the form)

4. Parts list (BOM sheet)

How long does the EN71 test take?
